Check out this video from Volvo.
Volvo’s always been a brand that focuses on safety. In this video (and accompanying website and social media campaign) they take it a step further. Their vision now includes Volvo drivers AND those outside the car. Volvo’s goal: “by 2020, no person will be killed, or seriously injured, by a new Volvo.”
The Volvo Lifepaint video comes with a website and they’re encouraging the hashtag #volvolifepaint on Twitter and Instagram.

It also comes with a mini backlash and detractors who feel the campaign “victim blames” bicyclists and puts the onus on bikers when it should put it all on drivers. Blogger and illustrator Bekka Wright (AKA bikeyface) came up with a spraycan of “Heads Up!” … funny and on point.

BUT:
I drive and I bike. Anything that helps cars see bikers (even if it’s just this video!) is a help. I’m glad Volvo did this and I particularly love their idea of expanding their focus to those outside cars. I hope to see more of this.
